War Within Volume 3 6 Synopsis
Synopsis Submitted By: Sol Fury
Following on from the successful portal jump last issue that brought Optimus Prime back, Flash also finds himself back on Cybertron - followed by an angry mob of Sharkticons. He desperately sends out an SOS to his fellow Turbomasters, needing to warn them that Cybertron faces an invasion, not a conquest.
Optimus Prime is brought up to speed on events by Perceptor and Nightbeat. Although barely strong enough to stand, Prime orders all available Autobots to take up arms. While Perceptor tries to shut down the Aerial Extermination Troopers using a neural spike to their mental network, the other Autobots will finish the fight at the core - where as this goes on, Megatron and his forces are still holding the upper hand against the newly-freed Autobots, even with the reborn Grimlock there to help them.
The Quintessons decide to make their move, and try to force the ejection of Cybertron's core, which will kill everyone in the area. But in the Decepticon command center, Starscream, freed during Grimlock's rampage, sees the Quintesson interference and assumes it is Megatron's doing. Wanting payback on Megatron, Starscream successfully counters the Quintesson's interference.
The battle beneath Cybertron rages on, with Prime and the others now joining the fight. The Autobots start to get the advantage, but Megatron is far from defeated. Prime senses a second presence within Grimlock, and as he senses it, a portion of the power within Grimlock transfers to Optimus, repairing and restoring him (the power is here described as Primus-endowed, confirming it was Primus who revived Grimlock). At the same time, Perceptor manages to bring down the neural network of the Aerial Extermination Troopers, shutting them all down. Megatron flees.
After the battle, the other Turbomasters find Flash. Damaged beyond repair, Flash is dying, but before he passes he gives the Turbomasters the proof of Megatron's dealings with the Quintessons, which when released across Cybertron even turns Megatrons own allies against him.
On Prime's orders, Perceptor begins to restore Grimlock, rebuilding him as he once was, wary of the consequences. On Quintessa, the Quintessons lament their defeat, but realize that the power they coveted so much did not only lay within the core of Cybertron, but within Optimus Prime as well, who ironically had been in their clutches the whole time. They resolve to change their plans - why steal a whole planet, when an individual will do?
War Within Volume 3 6 Review
War Within Volume 3 6 Additional Info
The script of this issue was never completed due to Dreamwave folding. Simon Furman distributed a summary of the issue's events with the script of issue 5 in 2011 so that fans might know how the series concluded.
There is some interesting foreshadowing at the end involving the Quintessons which may have eventually tied into their appearance in the ongoing series. There is also an explanation of where the Sharkticons Shockwave encountered and Hot Rod's pet Sharkticon, Gnaw, came from. The restoration of Grimlock is described as having consequences, which could be a reference to his sudden personality shift in the first mini-series, or more foreshadowing.
